Over three million attic fans have been identified for possible fire hazard recall

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of nearly 3 million ceiling fans, sold over an 11-year period, due to the potential of the fans' electric motors to short circuit and start a fire.

Manufactured by Air Vent, Inc., the recalled fans were sold across the country, in various stores and wholesalers, as well as online. Some of the online platforms where they were sold include ABC Supply, Lowe's, and Beacon.

So far, there have been 159 reported incidents regarding the recalled attic fan motors involving burning or a fire, but no injuries have been reported. The recall involves gable and roof-mounted attic fans with electric motors whose safety cutoffs may pose a risk of short circuit and fire hazard while in use.

The fans, which were sold between August 2003 and December 2013, were priced approximately between $74 to $92. The specific retailers where they were sold are not detailed in the available search results, but they were sold only and across the country.

To be eligible for a refund, consumers must fill out an online registration and verification form, providing photos of the recalled attic fan motor. It's important to note that only the attic fan motors with the distinctive vent pattern are being recalled. The distinctive vent pattern on the motor end bells can be used to identify the recalled attic fan motors.

The model numbers of the recalled fans are: DOW-136-0-34-XIN, DOW-136-0-26-XIN, DOW-136-0-40-XIN, DOW-136-0-40-XIN-3⁄4, D-RE-PSC-127/20-4P1SP. Consumers who have purchased the recalled fans are advised to stop using them and contact Air Vent for a refund.

The CPSC urges consumers to take immediate action to ensure their safety. For more information about the recall, consumers can visit the CPSC's website or contact Air Vent directly.
