Indiana governor discusses casino relocation research and tribal gambling matters

The Rising Star Casino, currently located in southern Indiana, is facing challenges and is being considered for relocation, with Governor Mike Braun of Indiana leading the discussions.

Governor Braun has proposed several potential locations for the casino's relocation, including Fort Wayne and New Haven, with the aim of bringing gaming opportunities closer to northern Indiana and stimulating economic activity in those regions.

In a recent interview with WANE 15, Governor Braun did not provide any new information about the decision-making process for the Rising Star casino relocation. However, he did confirm that the study of the relocation issue by the state Senate committee is still ongoing.

One alternative location for the casino's relocation is New Haven, east of Fort Wayne, with plans for a new casino site and significant investment of around $500 million. This alternative is part of a broader proposal supported by Indiana legislation allowing the relocation.

Full House Resorts had proposed the relocation of the Rising Star casino to New Haven. However, the proposed relocation to New Haven was halted due to local opposition and a state Senate committee chairman's decision to study the issue before allowing a vote.

Governor Braun believes the state Senate committee's study might find a location better suited for the Rising Star casino than northeast Indiana. He suggested that potential locations for the casino's relocation could be beyond northeast Indiana, but did not specify any new location in the interview with WANE 15.

The state of Indiana is currently in the process of deciding where to relocate the Rising Star casino. The final decision will likely depend on the findings of the state Senate committee's study and the support of the local communities involved.
